As a violist, I find that I can work my shoulders and back into quite a bind by the time I am done with a practice. When playing for long periods of time, you are usually given a 10-15 minute break here and there, so I wanted to develop a short yoga practice to fill that time that would help to release tension in the shoulders and back. Here it is!
- Mountain pose (deep breathing, 1 minute)
- Neck rolls (30 seconds in each direction)
- Reed pose (hold for 30 seconds on each side)
- Standing Sufi Grind (stand with arms loose at sides, twist torso from side to side, letting arms swing freely, one minute)
- Forward fold (hold for 30 seconds)
- Cycle of Downward Facing Dog, Triangle, Downward Facing Dog, Revolved Triangle (do it on each side)
- Forward fold (hold for 30 seconds)
- Cycle of Mountain and Garland Pose (three times)
- Mountain (deep breathing, one minutes)
