Speaking in Person

  • Speaking rates vary depending on the following:
  • Is the sponsoring organization for-profit or non-profit?
  • Workshop vs. Lecture-style
  • Travel time necessary
  • Time required on-site
  • New presentation (more expensive) or repeated presentation (less expensive)
  • Desire to build the presentation
  • Desire to attend the event
  • Are the other main speakers being paid?
  • Recording and distribution of the talk
  • Opportunity to promote a cause I care about
  • Temperature at home and temperature of site (do I get to temporarily escape the winter or the heat of the summer?)

In general, speaking fees vary depending on the above. The total cost for me to attend and speak at your event will be Speaking Fee + Travel + Lodging + Meals. My travel expenses by plane can be calculated from the Salt Lake City airport (SLC). All speaking fees are negotiated in advance and paid to Edge of Learning (my consulting business).

Note: I will occasionally speak at an event without charging a fee (cover travel, food, and lodging) if it gives me an opportunity to promote a cause or speak for an event I might want to attend anyways.

Speaking via Webinar

Speaking at TEDxMuskegon in 2011

Speaking rates vary depending on the following:

  • Type of event
  • New presentation or repeated presentation
  • Desire to build the presentation
  • Opportunity to promote a cause I care about
  • Recording and distribution of webinar

In general, speaking fees for webinars are lower than for in-person events, since travel days and life disruption is minimized. Webinars will need to be conducted on your webinar platform (speaking fee includes meeting ahead of time to make sure webinar platform will work fine). All speaking fees are negotiated in advance and paid to Edge of Learning (my consulting business).
