Dirty Dishes

How can two people generate so many dirty dishes in one day? I loaded up the dishwasher after dinner one night, and then gathered up all the new dirty dishes before I went to bed:

Joel suggested once that we simply use one plate, one glass, one coffee cup, one bowl, and a set of silverware each and put all the other dishes away. Then, if you needed a clean plate, you’d have to clean your own. I wonder if that would work? Anyone ever tried it?

I think Joel is on to something. When I was growing up, we had one glass and we used that glass all day. If we wanted something different to drink than what was in it before, we had to wash it ourselves. I try to do that now, but our glasses are all uniform now, so it’s hard to tell which is mine and which is Matt’s. I keep trying to get him to use one glass, but he doesn’t. Even when I lived alone, I generated tons of dishes…having just one of each that I needed would have cut down the dishwashing.

At our old house, I would run the dishwasher once a week. I don’t know how, but here, I’m running it 2-3 times per week.

I believe in the one glass per day rule….but I need a clean plate and fork for every meal. Heck I need a clean plate and fork if I’m having dessert after a meal. 🙂
It’s terrible but we run the dishwasher twice a day here. BUT we don’t run it until it’s FULL. I guess that tells you how many dishes we accumulate. I say it’s because D is a gourmet cook 🙂
Good luck with that if you undertake it!
