Hanging out with Family

What’s a family reunion without playing some games. After our visits to the farms, we gathered at the church in Lebanon to have a great lunch (thanks Val!) and to play some games. First, there were a few rounds of Croquet and Bocce. Later in the afternoon, we gathered inside to play “chickenfoot” (a dominoes variation) and a few different games of cards. Here are six of the seven brothers and sisters of A.J. and Jennie Haverhals. The farm my Dad grew up on

This is the farm and house that I remember visiting as a small child. When my grandma was pregnant with my dad (1944), a tornado came through and wiped out the farm. This is a picture of some of the tornado damage. Possibly Related Posts: Hanging out with Family Haverhals Family Reunion: Homestead Iowa Interstate 80 – Exit...

Haverhals Family Reunion: Homestead

Only in Northwest Iowa can you see “Haverhals Livestock” on the side of a silo. Leah and Mary chat at the original homestead farm. The big barn (shown below in an old photo) was built in 1898. It doesn’t look bad for its age. Here we all are milling around in the original barn: We don’t look much like farmers, do we? Iowa Interstate 80 – Exit 29

On Thursday, I was talking with Keri (from Sheridan, WY) on the phone and she asked what we were doing this weekend. Oh, we’re going to a family reunion in Iowa, I said. Keri replied that she was driving to St. Louis for a wedding. Wait a sec, I said, we must be crossing paths at some point. I got out a map … sure enough, our paths would overlap on the west side of Iowa. We planned our routes so that our paths would intersect at roughly the same time this morning. After we got off track (missed an exit) and much last-minute coordination via texting and calling (don’t worry – our significant others were driving) … we met at Exit 29 on Interstate 80 in Iowa. What’s at Exit 29 you ask? Um … not much, apparently. We all had an early lunch at the A&W. I haven’t seen Keri in two years and we were trying to coordinate our vacation time to go somewhere this summer, but it just didn’t work out. Weird how, at the last minute, we figured out how to meet up anyways! It was so nice to see a dear friend from far away! Possibly Related Posts: The Four Processors: A Neogeneralist Problem?
